does anyone put vinegar on their greens on a roast? everyone recoils in horror when I do but all my family do it.

when I ask how is it much different than mint sauce I get no valid answer!

Love Horseradish.

My father used to grow it and make horseradish sauce.

Eye watering if you're not careful.

Shall we throw wasabi in the mix?

Most of the time in the West it is just horseradish anyway.

I've always seen condiments such as mustard/horseradish, mint sauce & apple sauce as digestive aids - they each add something to the meat so that it is easier to break down.

"Wisdom" handed down to me from my mother and aunts in my younger years and reinforced by a lodger I once had who happened to be a top-notch, possibly even Cordon Bleu qualified, chef.

Too much.
Agreed, found some in a country road.
Lightly scraped the mud off then started chopping, my God how extreme.
My eyes FFS.
They should give it to Russian soldiers to peel before going into battle, the war would be over in a couple of days

There is a late 1600s private (not published) recipe for "Cucumber Catchup” which called for “a handful of scraped horseradish” to “every quart of the Liquor.”

'I like Lamb with Mint Sauce, but I mix my Mint Sauce with Vinegar'

What is in your mint sauce besides vinegar, mint and a bit of sugar? That's just extra vinegary mint sauce you've got there

Horseradish should be shaved or if grating, freeze it first

I can confirm grating horseradish is like the Battle of Ypres.

I did find an Irish manuscript recipe the other day from the 18th century. It had a recipe for "Artificial Coffee" - close to my area of interest.

You burn bread, grind it up and add boiling water.

I've grown and grated my own for sauce now and again.

If you think chopping onions are bad for the mince pies, fuck me, grating horseradish fucks all over that..

But a little bit of culture and history hardly worth getting all emogee about.

Depends on the ketchup

I made a mushroom ketchup from an 18th century recipe, very nice on a lot of things.
